Helpful Tips
Medical Hair Loss
It is best to schedule your complementary, private consultation with Hair Enhancements after your diagnosis and before treatment begins, so that we can see your current style and look.
As soon as you know you are going to need a hair replacement option, call your health insurance company and see if “cranial prosthetics” are included in your benefits. If this is one of your health coverage benefits, find out what you will need to do to obtain coverage. We recommend that you keep all of your medical insurance papers and doctor notes in one easy to find notebook or binder.
It’s very helpful to bring recent photos of yourself when choosing a hair replacement option. You might also want to cut off a small lock of your own hair before you lose it so we match its color precisely.
It is acceptable and encouraged for your to bring your family or other support persons along with you when selecting a hair replacement option.
If your scalp is sensitive, select a hair replacement option that includes lightweight and soft materials.
Avoid extreme heat and excessive styling materials when caring for your wig or hair piece.
If you are uncomfortable in your wig, or having a hard time getting used to wearing it, try wearing it for just 2 hours at a time until you become accustom to the fit and feeling.
Thinning Hair
Thinning hair can be triggered by a variety of factors which include stress, hormone levels, vitamin deficiencies, weight loss, skin conditions, iron and zinc deficiencies, anemia, harsh chemical hair treatments, etc. If left untreated, thinning hair can develop into baldness, so it’s important to seek treatment as soon as you notice that your hair is thinning.
It is very important to address your thinning hair as soon as you observe a change in the thickness and health of your hair.
Keep in mind that preventing is always easier than repairing damage which has already been done. Try to prevent thinning hair by offering your body all the vitamins it needs and by paying attention to hair care. There are a number of natural remedies as well as medical treatments for thinning hair. Dermatologists specialize in problems with skin and hair and may be able to offer a diagnosis. Natural remedies can be sought out by seeking the advice of nutritionists or herbalists.
Thinning hair and bald spots can drastically affect a woman’s self-esteem. Hairpieces offer a non-surgical and practical solution.
