Pre-Measurement Instructions & Tips

Before you measure your wig cap size, you should know that exact sizing varies from person to person. Everyone's head shape is different, and the same is true for the amount of bio hair each person has.

What that means is that, even if you and someone else had the same circumference measurement, your wigs could still have a different fit. That's why it's important to take all of the measurements listed below, not just the basic circumference measurement.

When measuring your head for a Topper or Lace Wig, make sure that your hair is styled the same way you plan to wear it under the wig – whether it’s braided, pinned, or under a wig cap – so the measurements are accurate. If you think you’ll lose your hair later, measure your head tightly to fit your scalp, not the thickness of your current hair. If you need help or have questions, feel free to call or email our team.

Practical pre-measurement tip: use a soft, non-stretchable tape measure when recording all the measurements you will need to work out your wig cap size (as shown in the diagram below). You should always place the tape measure just outside of your hairline (since Lace Wigs are applied outside of the hairline).

Finally, remember to record each measurement a minimum of THREE times (and then work out the average) for the most accurate results.

How to Measure Wig Cap Size: Step-by-Step Instructions

1) Circumference:

This is the first and most important measurement you will need to take to measure your wig cap size. Place the soft measuring tape flat against your forehead at your hairline and wrap it around your head. The tape should rest behind your ears and also sit on the nape of your neck.

HEP Hot Tip: This measurement starts about four fingers up from the middle of your forehead. You can find this spot this by lining your pinky finger up with your eyebrows, and then going straight up with your next four fingers in a tight row. Just above the fourth finger (including your pinky), right in the middle of your forehead, is where you should measure from.

2) Front to Nape:

Place the tape measure about a 1/2-inch in front of your hairline and measure back to the nape of your neck, going over the crown of your head.

HEP Hot Tip: Not sure where your nape is? Simply tilt your head backward and feel around with your free hand to find the crease in your skin that appears when tilting.

3) Ear to Ear Across Forehead:

Place the tape measure just in front of your ear at your hairline where your sideburns are, and measure to your opposite side-burn, bringing the tape across your front hairline.

HEP Hot Tip: Imagine you are wearing a pair of glasses or shades. Exactly where the legs would sit on either side of your ears is where you are going to measure to and from.

4) Ear to Ear Over Top of Head:

Place the measuring tape at your hairline at the top of your ears, and measure over the top of your head over to your opposite ear.

5) Temple to Temple Around Back of Head:

Place the tape measure at your hairline from your temple, going around the back of your head to the opposite temple.

6) Nape of Neck:

Measure the width of your hairline across the nape of the neck (bearing in mind the tip we shared earlier about how to find your nape).
